My well-being journey has changed my life dramatically.
After I left my job in finance I re-trained as a Massage Therapist and set up my own business to offer massage treatments to people who were seated for too long each day in the workplace.
Without fail, our team of therapists treated people for almost the same sorts of problems – knee, hip, neck and lower back issues. As well as offering a friendly listening ear to workers I hope that our treatments made a difference.
But I want to go further than that. If you are in a sedentary job we want to give you the knowledge so that you can become more proactive about your health in the workplace.
By improving your mental and physical health you can enhance your performance in work, and become a better person, at home with your loved ones. You can learn daily actions tips, tools and strategies that will strengthen your mental and physical health.
I love talking about well-being issues in the workplace and have participated in various Lunch And Learn sessions organised by Business In The Community.
When Was My Ah-Ha Moment?
The day was 6 April 2021.
From my research I came to realise that most chronic conditions are the result of our lifestyle habits built up over many years.
Boom.. imagine that! I had no idea of this connection and probably always thought that our genes determined our health, and that was a done deal.
I decided to make two investments in my own well-being.
The first was to buy a Sit-Stand desk and the second was to begin a Whole Food eating regime ( the word diet sounds like a temporary fix ) and cut out foods with a high gluten content.
I love, love using my desk and I only use a stool to perch on from time to time when I am working.
The basis of the programme was to avoid eating any processed foods, and I really do mean any processed foods. So, for the first while I seemed to spend a lot of time cooking and then I discovered batch cooking, hurrah! In the first year I lost 3 stone in weight and my IBS went away.
Nearly three years down the road, and I still eat a whole food diet with very low gluten foods.
I can honestly say that I feel so much better, more focused, more calm, more energised and I’ve kept that weight off.
My goal is to raise your awareness of how making permanent lifestyle changes can drastically improve your health and well-being.
Let’s do this and empower people to reach their own ‘personal best’ state of mental and physical well-being.
